SOCIETY FOR PROTECTION The monthly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held on Wednesday, Dr M'Kimion presiding. The secretary’s report showed that 18 cases had been dealt with. Callers at tlie office during the mouth had numbered 230, and the visits paid 26. The amount of widows’ pensions and maintenance money collected and disbursed through the society had amounted to £lO5 19s Bd. An intimation from the Trustees, Executors and Agency Company of New Zealand Ltd. that a legacy had been left to the society in the will of the late Mr W. T. MOukman was received with appreciation. The question of the nature of some ,of the radio broadcasts during the children’s hour came up for discussion and met with unfavourable' criticism, especially in connection with certain sections. Episodes of gangster life, entailing robberies anrl murders, with the correspondingly coarse language used was considered unsuitable in the training of children. The opportunity was there for many educational subjects to be broadcast, which could inspire children to high ideals of endeavour in such subjects as great engineering feats all over the world, alpine climbing, arctic and antarctic expeditions. and the lives and work of the great philanthropists and scientists of the world.
