‘GLORIOUS MORNING'

In selecting Norman MacOwan’s noble and inspiring play, ‘ Glorious Morning ’ for its next production at His Majesty’s Theatre the Dunedin Repertory Society could not have made a choice more appropriate to these times. Whilst containing no word of war, it depicts the conflict of wills between the individual and the totalitarian State, and leaves one with the firm conviction that no more physical repression can quench the flame of idealism which man has cherished throughout the ages. ‘ Glorious Morning ’ achieved an instantaneous success when it was originally produced in London, and was hailed as one of the most sincere and moving plays of recent years. The society’s cast for this production is a particularly strong one, and among the leading figures are two who have not been seen in repertory productions for some years. Mr Fred. A vent, whoso fine performance in ‘ Libel ’ will be remembered, gives promise of a masterly study as Anton, the patriarchal head of a peasant family. Although Miss Alary Jolly’s Kliza Doolittle was in the early days of the Repertory Society, it has not been forgotten hy theatregoers, who will ■welcome her reappearance in ' Glorious Morning.’ As Leda, a modern Joan of Arc, she has a part calling for great delicacy of handling. The plnv is being produced by At'ss Bessie Thomson, and will run for n season of four nights from September 27.
