MEMORIAL TO SHAKESPEARE
The Shakespeare Memorial that will now commemorate tne Prince of Denmark and his creator is a portrait relief of the bard,,executed m Gothland sandstone by Professor Utzon-Frank. It has beenplaced on the Wall of th» castle at Kronborg, Elsinore, where the performances of- Hamlet by summer tourist draw, on tho part fac* ing the Sound described in act 1., sees# 1., as “ a platform before the castle, where the ghost first appeared. To* inscription on - the relief reads; “ Legend relates the story of Amleth, a king’s son, who lived m Jutland Before the Viking period. Saxo (the Danish historian) record&Fthis saga, in the Renaissance period Shakespeare reproduced Hamlet’s fate and made .it part of this castle. Thereby he ensured the Danish prince’s -everlasting fame and spread the name of Elsmor* over the whole world.” !
