DISPLAY OF WORK

HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION The aim of the Home Economics Association is to make knowledge available to all women in making their homes economically sound and artistically satisfying, and by the display of work in the Concert Chamber on Thursday afternoon, to which 15 branches of the association contributed, it was shown how it was possible to obtain these results. - Quilts, knitted garments, pewter and brass work, supper cloths, rope mats, and tapestry pictures were some of the many articles displayed, these being made for the most part from discarded or waste material. A hall carpet with matching slip mats, made with four ply wool woven into hessian, attracted much attention, as did the exhibit of hand-made toys .and felt work. Here, old felt hats were shown “ before and after ■treatment,” and it was hardly credible that the colourful display which included belts, smart slippers, cushions, powder puff cases, pictures, and children’s toys, could have been made from such material.

Many -were attracted by tbe table displaying samples of cakes and savouries made from wholemeal and brown sugar —SO varieties being shown. In the evening clothes—school, party, beach, and night—were shown in a special mannequin parade. These clothes had been made_ by members of the association. Musical items were also given by the Opoho choir.
