AUCKLAND CLUB
The fifth social of the season of the Auckland Club was held in the Strand Salon on Saturday last, when members and visitors were welcomed by the host and hostess of the evening, Mr and Mrs Tremain. All present participated in an enjoyable programme of ■ music and dancing, the proceedings being capably directed by Mr E. Griffin. Two musical competitions caused much amusement, and were won by Mrs Woolley and Mr Tremain, and the prizes for the statue dance were won by Mr and Mrs Chapman. Delightful vocal numbers were rendered by Miss J. M‘Lay (‘ Still as the Night ’ and ‘ I Wonder If Love Is a Dream ’) and Miss R. Roche (‘ My Dear Soul ’ and ‘ Somebody’s Knocking At Your Door’). During the supper interval Mr H. Chapman introduced! two new members, and especially welcomed Mr E. R. Grace, a representative of the Blind Institute. SINGER'S SUCCESS RETURN TO NEW ZEALAND POSTPONED Miss Jean Certdii, who hoped to return to New Zealand in January next, may have to postpone her return because of many engagements she is being offered in Sydney. Miss Cerchi is becoming more and more popular in Sydney, often filling as many as three engagements in one night. Miss Cerchi is under special contract terms with the Hotel Plaza, where she is a major attraction. Recently Miss Cerchi was engaged to play a small part in the Petersham Operatic Society’s production of Noel Coward’s ‘ Bitter Sweet,’ and this has led to her being engaged to play the lead) in their October production of ‘ Miss Hook of Holland.’ In addition to her many musical activities, Miss Cerchi is now the possessor of a flourishing little business of her own. She is a very happy and extremely busy young lady. Before leaving for Australia Miss Cerchi was a pupil of Mr Assheton Harbord, Wellington. with whom she keeps in touch regularly. She hopejs to return to Wellington early next year, and will be anxious to resume her activities in the musical life of the Dominion,,
