RECRUITING CAMPAIGN CONTINUES FLOW OF APPLICATIONS MAINTAINED The registrations to yesterday for Dunedin in the special force for overseas or home defence were 475, including an additional 50 registrations yesterday. This increase is regarded as a healthy sign of the maintained interest that is being taken by all sections of recruits in the campaign. Though there are 56 trade classifications involved by the staff after registrations have been made the work has been proceeding without any hitch whatever, even though the new system of recruiting was introduced at almost a moment’s notice. From all parts of the province correspondence relating to details about joining the force has been pouring in daily from country districts in the province, the applicants including persons in every walk of life. Wednesday’s registrations were as follows, grouped in No. 1 group (officers on the reserve or active list), Group No. 1A (retired or ex-officers). Group No. 2 (single men). Volunteers for the special military force for service within or beyond the Dominion totalled 364 at the various centres in the Northern Military District to-day, bringing the aggregate for the district up to 3,762 for the three days’ recruiting. The metropolitan enrolments at the Drill Hall were 78, making 1,755 for the city in three days. INVERCARGILL, September 14. There was a fairly steady stream of enlistments for the special military force to-day, and tin* total for the Southland area is now 355. The medical examination of reci'uits began to-day. Of the 87 examined, 24 were rejected as temporarily unfit, mainly for dental reasons, and 14 as permanently unlit.
