MOTTO: TO SAVE LIFE. CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS The Girls’ Life Brigade of New Zealand is combining with the Boys’ Brigade, the Anckland Sunday School Union, and the Wellington Sunday School Union in a 9ft 6in by 2ft 6in window in the Church Court at the Exhibition, and each organisation will hare definite periods during the five months of the Exhibition in which to advertise its work. Details of this will be arranged later. What is wanted now is that officers with artistic and window dressing ability should get in touch with the Dominion secretary, giving details as .to how best the window may be dressed and decorated. Samples of handwork and general badge work will be most welcome for display purposes. Exhibits, with the name of the exhibit, the company, and the church, should be posted to Miss Thompson, 29 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, Wellington. BIBLE KNOWLEDGE EXAMINATION, 1939. The examination for the Bible knowledge badge will be held the last week in October. The test is for seniors only, that is, girls 13 years and over. The ■yllabus for the examination has been forwarded to all companies, and giris wishing to enter should ask their oincere. for a copy of the work set. NEW COMPANIES. New companies recently affiliated with the G.L.B. movement in New Zealand are 23rd Anckland (Ponsonby Baptist Church), Ist Napier (Hukarere Anglican College for Maori Girls), and Ist Dargavill© (Dargaville Methodist Church). There are now 67 companies on. the Dominion Council’s books, and the numbers are creeping up. As a result of the Dominion secretary s visit to South Canterbury and Christchurch, it » expected that several new companies will be formed in Christchurch and Tiniaru, and possibly battalions in each place. G.L.B. WEEK RESULTS. The total amount raised for the Dominion was £384 15s Sd 1 , which is £175 11s 4dl more than last year’s total. Ine highest average was raised by Ist Nelson Company with 16s 6d a member, while Ist Rotorua Company raised the highest amount, £27, an average.of 15s 10Ta member. Of the Dunedin companies Ist Dunedin raised the highest amount, and 10th Dunedin the highest average a girl. Well done, everybody! CENTENARY BADGE, A special mufti badge for centenary year is to be issued for tbe use of officers, girls, and those actively engaged' in G.L.B. work. The badge will be similar to the present one, with the addition of “ N.Z. Centenary, 1940.’ Every bdgader will want one of these badges, and the equipment department hopes to have them ready by October. They will be supplied at Is each. JENNIE STREET TROPHY. The results of the competition for the Jennie Street trophy have been published* and the trophy has been won by 7th Auckland Company with an average of 80 per cent.; 17th Auckland came second with an average of 774. This examination included) a practical knowledge of G.L.B. aims, work, and history. The Dominion president enjoyed marking tbe papers, and sends her congratulations to all who entered, and to those who were unsuccessful she sends the message : “ Try, try, try again.” She urges those companies which did not compete to be up and doing in 1940. The first six companies in order of merit were; 7th Auckland, 17th Auckland, 2nd Whangarei 6th Wellington, 12th Auckland, Ist Wellington. Wake up, Dunedin, and win the trophy next year! A GAME FOR THE CADETS. Catch Ball—Cadets are arranged in teams, each with a leader, who stands facing the head of the team. On the signal to go each leader throws a ball to the first in her team, who catches it, returns it to the leader, and sits down. The ball is then thrown to the second <riri in the line. This is continued until all are sitting.. If the hall is dropped by a player the throw must be repeated'. The first team sitting wins.
