DUNEDIN CRICKET CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING MR R. C. TORRANCE, PRESIDENT The forty-fifth annual meeting of the Dunedin Cricket Club was held last night, Mr J. Robson (president) being in the chair. Alterations to the rules as submitted, by a special sub-committee were agreed to. The annual report, after referring to the performances ox the past season, expressed satisfaction at the sound state of tho finances. Regret was expressed at the death during the yeixr of Major W. Fleming, who had. been a life member for many years, also of an esteemed ex-member, Mr B. Cherry. Congratulations were extended to two' members who had distinguished themselves in other branches of sport—Mr C. Quaid in the football field and Mr R. A. Algie, who had won the New, Zealand championship at table tennis,, and who subsequently further distinguished himself as a member of the Dominion’s touring team in Australia. The Chairman, in moving tho adoption of the report and balance sheet, referred to the atrocious weather conditions which had affected the club and cricket generally. Although the senior team had not done so well as its play, at the outset of the season had promised, said Mr Robson, it had maintained the reputation of the club for playing sporting cricket. The captain (J. G. Robertson) had again been a tower of strength, winning the Maclean Cup for the best average in all grades, as well as the trophies for the best batting and bowling averages in the senior team, and a special trophy as the first century-maker of the season. The president also made special reference to A. G. Valentine as captain of tho second grade B team, and concluded by expressing tho opinion that the turf wickets on most of the grounds had, during .the past few years, deteriorated greatly, with the. result that some clubs had been compelled to practise on mal-thoid-covered wickets.
