A well-known judge, calling on a lawyer friend of his, happened when he left to leave a law book on the desk. The lawyer ordered his clerk to return the book. “ And ask Sir John what he meant by bringing me a law book,” he added'jocularly.’ The clerk delivered the hook—and the message. “ Ask him,” replied the judge, “ how he knew it was a law book.”
