PETROL COUPONS
ISSUE COMMENCES TO-MORROW TEK GALLONS MONTHLY ADDITIONAL TO BUSINESS ALLOWANCE Coupons enabling ear owners to obtain supplies of petrol up to 10 gallons monthly will be available froni to-mor-row stated the Controlled of Oil Fuels (Mr N. R. M'lsaac) this morning, lo avoid congestion the distribution of the coupons is to he made at the parcels branch of the C.P.0., in Water street. This additional supply of petrol will be granted irrespective of what an owner may have been granted by permit issued last week for usj in business. In effect, this means that, if a man has a permit for, say, five gallons a week for commercial use, he still may secure the addition 10 gallons per month under the coupon system. .... It is not essential that car owners obtain their coupons to-morrow Mr M'lsaac said, ns they will be available at any time after Friday. The office will remain open until 8 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, as it is hoped the extended hours will spread th© business. Two types of coupons are to be issued viz., white and pink. The white coupon entitles a private car owner to two gallons for each coupon, and the pink coupon gives the motor cyclist one gallon. The coupons are obtainable only by the registered owner, and will not be issued to any person other than tho registered owner, except in exceptional circumstances, and then the registered) owner must authorise, in writing, the person making application. The Oil Fuel Controller will make announcements each month indicating the numbers ,of the coupons _ which vehicle owners will be authorised to tender as authority to purchase motor spirit. . Only the “ authorised numbers ” of coupons may bo drawn on each month. Any unused coupons will, therefore, become void at the end of the month for which they are available. A person or firm on selling a vehicle must hand over to the new owner the remaining coupons for J}ie balance pf the year. The unused coupons must be surrendered to the deputy-registrar when the registration of a vehicle is cancelled.
