DEFAULTER SCRATCHED
MAY RETURN TO DOMINION SYDNEY, September 13. Defaulter has been scratched _ fron the next two Saturday meetings—namely, Rosehill and Hawkesbury His trainer will make an announcement on Sunday whether Defaulter will re main for the spring campaign or re turn to New Zealand forthwith. Defaulter to-day was given the lightest exercise with the off foreleg heavily encased in an antiphlogistiru poultice. He walked soundly enough but was not even trotted or cantered. M’CARTEN TD RIDE BEAU VITE SYDNEY, September 13. _ M. M'Carten will ride Beau Vite in the A.J.C. Derby. This decision was reached by the toss of a coin with the New Zealand jockey A. E. Ellis, resulting in M'Carten winning. Bean Vite’s owner, Mr Stewart, has been in a dilemma concerning a rider. He desired to be loyal to Ellis, but realised that M'Carten’s greater know ledge of Australian conditions would be a big factor in the classic Derby. Beau Vite has thrived since his arrival here. He galloped an easy mile at Randwick to-day and could not he faulted. WIN FDR TE HERD ' SYDNEY, September 13. Two Epsom candidates, Te Hero and Denita, finished first and third in the first division of the Flying Welter Handicap at the Ascot meeting to-day. Te Hero, who was recently given barrier practice, jumped away well to-day and won in course record time, but not exactly Epsom time. The principal results were:— FLYING WELTER, £125. Six furlongs. —First Division. —• TE HERO, 9.6 (Scanlon) 1 Salamyue. 7.12 (Hughes) 2 Denita, 8.12 (Cook) 3 Twelve started. Won by a length with two lengths between second and third. Time, Imin 14sec—a course record. JUMPERS’ FLAT RACE, £125. One mile. SILVER COAT, 10.0 (Porter), ... 1 Padale, 9.7 (Kennedy) ... 2 Linklet, 9.7 (Hood) ... 3 Nine started. Won by two and a-half lengths, with half a length between second and third. Time, Imin 29Jsec — a. race record.
