AMATEUR BOXING
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION ELECTION OF OFFICERS [Per United Press Association.] INVERCARGILL September 13. The conference of the New Zealand Boxing Association was resumed W-day. New year’s championships were allotted to Auckland. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr N. M‘Lean (Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs Courtis (Invercargill) and Baillie (Greymouth); Appeal Committee—Messrs Sanders, Meredith. and Craig (Auckland); members of the council—Messrs J. R. Simpson, K. Blundell, E. A. Dawson, H. H. Sterling, C. G. Bridge; E. C. Magee (Wellington), and A. G. Parker (Dannevirte). Several additions to the rules wore adopted. A Manawatu remit that expenses allowed boxers should not exceed £lO unless there were special circumstances of merit and a permit was obtained from the council was lost; but an Otago remit bearing on the same question was adopted as follows: “ The maximum amount paid any boxer by way of expenses in respect of a particular contest shall not_ exceed £ls, and no expenses shall be paid any boxer in respect of a contest held in the town in which he resides.” The public to-day was educated to slugging instead of boxing, declared Mr G. H. Sceats (Gisborne) in urging the conference to take steps to inform the public of the principles of scientific boxing and self-defence and of the bright side of boxing as a sport. The public should now be informed of the efficient control of boxing in New Zealand. A recommendation to give effect to the proposal was adopted unanimously.
