BOY SCOUTS
MESSAGE ON THEIR DUTY Tho following message has been seufj to all Scout leaders from headquarters; This is to notify you officially that owing to the international, situation the jamboree has had to be cancelled. This decision will, no doubt be very disappointing to tbo boys, but we must not thipk. too much of our own troubles* hut concentrate, on putting our shoulders to the wheel to help our country.Although, it may be exceeding th» functions of tho jamboree team, w® would in our closing effort like to ask' Scouters to-consider with their boy's th» position of the movement as-it stand* at the moment. Thanks to the tremendous amount, of co-operation and help that has been received by the association during the last year a, great deal more publicity has been given ,-to tlia Scout movement than has hitherto been the case. It is up to us one and all to show now that what has been said! and written about us is true and that whatever may be the job_ they undertake Scouts always do their duty. As our motto we have the words “Be prepared,” and the immediate future will-show whether or not we are entitled to this. " Difficult times ara ahead of us, and it is not going to be those who rush about talking and spreading rumours and l boasting of what they can do who will help either the country or the reputation _of the movement. On the contrary, it is those who quietly go about their job doing whatever is asked of them and doing it promptly and efficiently, who will help in the difficult situations w'hich may. possibly arise. There are many things which Scouts can do, hut you should offer your services and not. wait to be asked. It would seem to us that above all Scouts should try to contact those homes and people whose husbands op sons have been called to other services, causing difficulties and trouble in .their homes. Here there will undoubtedly be many opportunities for Scouts doing good turns, and these should be done in the Scouting way, quietly, without publicity, and in a kindly and helpful manner. ~ . Concluding, all of •us ■ would 1 wish Scouting the very best of good wishes in the years ahead, and sincerely ,trust that the time will come when a jamboree is successfully held in our country. ___ •
