HOME ECONOMICS
ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The seventeenth annual general meeting of Otago Home Economics Association was held in the Homo Science building on Tuesday night, with the president, Mrs Glue, in the chair. In spite of very inclement weather, there was a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Professor Strong, Mrs Le.ary, Mrs Reilly, Miss Calder, and Pine Hill branch. The adoption of the report and balance sheet- was moved by Mrs Laidlow, Mrs Keith Cameron, in seconding the motion, expressed her satisfaction at the increased membership and a,t the sound state of the finances. The programmes carried out in central meetings and in the branches spoke for the keen interest of members in the general welfare of the family. _ The ultimate success of the association lny > in the continued practical efforts to improve conditions concerning the home. Such a large group of women should have much to offer in service to the community, and it would be well for all members to be fully aware of this. The adoption of the report and balance sheet was carried unanimously. Short reports were read hy officers of the respective branches. Mrs Orr Campbell congratulated the branch presidents on the business-like way in which their meetings had been conducted in carrying out the varied programmes dealing with so many different aspects of home life. Mrs Glue spoke in appreciation of tho loyal support given her by all officers and members during her year of office. Working in conjunction with so many capable women had made her realise the potential power which lay in helpful co-operation. In tho time of stress which lay ahead of us there would be opportunity for so.rvico, and Mrs Glue urged members, in any call for service, to act together as an association rather than to dissipate their efforts by joining up individually with several activities, which sentiment was approved by a round of applause. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs Glue';' vice-president, Mrs J. Wilson; secretary, Mrs Orr Campbell. The treasurer, Mrs Laidlaw, and publicity officer, Mrs Mew, were appointed at council meeting on August 24. A bouquet of spring flowers was presented to the retiring secretary, Miss Stevenson, by the president, who spoke words of appreciation for the cheerful service given to the association for so
