ABANDONED ELECTION
CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD RESULT OF WAR CRISIS [Peu United Pkess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, September' 12; It is now unlikely that the election for the Christchurch Tramway Board sot down for November next will be held. Both parties concerned, the Labour Party and the Citizens’ Association, have agreed that it would not be in the public interest to hold an election during a time of crisis. As the parties are agreed, it now remains for the Government to take the necessary legislative action to postpone the election and extend the period of membership of the present personnel of the board. The present members of the board are Messrs J. Mathicson (chairman), J. K.’Archer, M.L.C., R. M. Macfarlane. M.P., H. E. Denton, G. Manning, E. Parlane. J. Barr, W. J. Walter, and A. A. M'Lachlan. With the exception of Mr Walter (Independent) and Mr M'Lachlan (Citizens’ Association), all the members belong to the Labour Party. Owing to his appointment as president of the Assessment Court, Mr M'Lachlan will not retain his seat on ;he board, and. in accordance with an agreement reached by the two parties, he will bo replaced by a member of the Citizens’ Association.
