The Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C., was a passenger for Wellington by the 11.35 express this morning. Mr James Regg and Mr A. S. Holms (Waimahaka), members of the Meat Board, left this morning for Wellington. An 1851 Exhibition Scholar, Mr lan Lauder, of Christchurch, has just gained his U.Ph. of Manchester University.

Mr W. K. Cameron left this morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Pig CouncilMr A. J. Geddes, one of tjie South Island Rugby selectors, was a through passenger for Christchurch by the express from the south this morning. Mr J. L. Johnston, left this morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Bacon Carers'' Association.

Mr Donald Hutcheon, whose death occurred last week as the result of an accident, was born in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. He was brought lip in the grocery trade prior to his leaving the Old Country for New Zealand some 38 years ago Here he entered the tea business, commencing as a canvasser with the Hondai-Lanka Tea Company. Later he commenced in Wellington aa a tea blender and packer, and after 10 years’ successful trading returned to Dunedin, opening up the Calcutta Tea Company, of which he was proprietor and manager at the time of his death. Of a happy and quiet disposition, ha made many friends in the course of his business activities, and was well known from Ashburton to Gore. Ha leaves a widow and one son. Mr and Mrs M'Caskill are on a lengthy tour of the Continent. Mr M'Caskill holds a Carnegie travelling fellowship, which has enabled him to see much of the United States in an educational sense.

At present on a business visit to Dunedin is Mr Hiroshi Nomura, until recently of the Sydney Amateur Swimming Club, and formerly a Japanese coach and Western Districts champion of Japan. Mr Nomura has been transferred to New Zealand, and his headquarters are Wellington. While in Sydney he did a good deal to assist swimming.

A Wanganui Press Association telegram records the death of Mr Thomas Alexander, a member of the Waitotara County Council and chairman of the Okoia Co-operative Dairy Company. He was born in Wanganui 70‘years ago. and was educated at the old Boys’ High School and Collegiate School. Later he was a successful farmer in the Maxwell district.

Dr H. P. Donald is a new D.Sc. of Edinburgh University. He was formerly on the staff of the Canterbury Agricultural College, and now researches for this Scottish university, as well as for the British Council of Agricultural Research.

The Hon. F. Langstone, who represented New Zealand at the 1.L.0. conference at Geneva, and Mrs Langstone are back in Wellington. Other arrivals there are Mrs Murray Fuller, the Hon. Elliot Davis and Mrs Davis, of Auckland, and Sir Osborn G. Holmden and Lady Holmden. in the course of a tour. Mr Holmden was a director of the Interallied Chartering Executive in the war of 1914-18. —Press Association. Mr John Hunter Robertson, who recently passed an examination for a second class marine engineer’s Board of Trade certificate, has received instructions to join the engine room staff of the s.s. Kakapo at Wellington. The appointment of Mr A. E. Mabin, of Wellington, as president, and Mr David Allan, also of Wellington, as vice-president of the New Zealand Wool Brokers’ Association. _ was announced to-day.—Press Association.
