COMBINED RELIGIOUS SERVICES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —1 notice that the Prime Minister of Australia at the request of church .leaders set aside last Sunday as a day of prayer “ for divine guidance and enlightenment and an early but just peace.” Surely at such times as we are experiencing we are much in need of God’s guidance—more than we have ever felt our need of it before. The urgent call comes to us all to do as much as lies in our power to preserve the peace of our country through God’s guidance; in doing so we must learn to trust Him more than we hare done in the past. He has told us we should pray without ceasing. We remember a year ago how urgent it was to call for the world’s prayer, which gave a wonderful result, but because they have ceased universal prayers everything has once again become as bad as ever. It suggests to me that the world only wants Him in the time of trouble, but when everything is running smoothly it turns its back on Him. Surely as people of New Zealand ' we do appreciate the wonderful bless--1 ings which our Creator has given us; ' therefore may I suggest that we should hold a special service once every week and that such services should be broadcast throughout New Zealand? I am fully convinced that if we had more cheerful services, with many well-known hymns over the air, they would bo much better appreciated than much of the rubbish we have to contend with at the present time. I am quite willing to offer my services to meet such an urgent call, and I am sure God will help me in the part I take to deliver a message which will help the people to receive the blessings which they are much in need of. not forgetting that what will be good/for New Zealand will also be good for the world.—l am, etc., J. P. Mounts. September 11.''
