HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—lt docs seem strange that Poland should again have to fight for her independence, and have Germany’s mighty force against her. It was about 1780 when Russia made her onslaught for the partition of that country, and fin's reminds me of the poet Campbells’ lines:— Warsaw’s last champion her height survey’d, Wide o'er the fields, a waste of ruin laid.— “Oh! Heaven!” ho cried, “my bleeding country save! Is there no hand on high to shield the brave P Yet though destruction sweep those lovely plains, Rise, fellow-men 1 our country yet remains! By that dread name, we wave the sword on high! And swear for her to live! with her to die! ” Our only hope is that Poles may have their country restored to them. —I am. etc,, Britisher. September 9.
