DEFAULTER BEATS BEAU VITE

Adios was set a severe task, as Olympus established a lead which almost gave him victory, but Adios was too solid over the last furlong. Won by half a length, with a length between second and third. A feature of the race was a great run by Royal Chief, who came from last to gain third place. Beau Vite galloped splendidly and pressed Defaulter hard. The race was run at a strong pace, the first three furlongs being covered in 38isec and five in Imin 4ssec, which made the last half-mile 49Jsec. High Caste appeared to meet interference and was in the middle of the field all the way. The early pace was made by Reading, with Defaulter second and Beau Vite close by. Defaulter went to the front turning for home, and in a great race won by a short head from Beau Vite, Royal Chief being a length away third. Time, Imin 54sec. SPRING HANDICAP. £650. At the Doomben races, the Trial Hadicap, six furlongs, was won by the Lackham gelding Bengal Lancer, by a length from First Chance and Pentheus Night, in Imin 12isec.
