DRIVING SAFELY

The regulations governing private motor cars in various parts of the world are always interesting, and range from sound common sense to the ridiculous. In a new highway code that has been adopted for Holland there are some very sensible provisions. These provides amongst other things, that all cars within two years must be fitted with safety glass in the windscreens. “ Drive yourself cars,” that is cars let for hire without a driver, must undergo a mechanical inspection every three months, while stopping on a bridge or viaduct is absolutely prohibited. This seems a particularly sane rule. Another rule is that all cars must carry “ stop ” and direction indicators of an approved pattern.
