MINISTERIAL EXPLANATION TO RELIEVE DISTRESS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 9. “ Every five weeks £5,000 from the profits of the alluvial gold art unions is paid by the Department of Internal Affairs to the different mayoral relief funds,” said the Hon. W. G. Parry, when interviewed to-day._ The balance of the profits is kept intact by the department until there is a sum_ sufficient for allocations. “ The policy of the Government is to to devote the profits of the art unions to the relief o'f distress,” said Mr Parry. “ So long as we have cases needing a helping hand the money from the art unions will go to assist them.”
