BRIGADE NOTES On Sunday morning last the No. 1 Locomotive Railway Division held its annual inspection and competitions in the Drill Hall, when a largo gathering of spectators was present, among whom were several local officers of the Railway Department and representatives of the Otago Branch, E.F. and C.A. Thix : ty members were on parade when the annual inspection of the division was taken by Senior District Superintendent T. Belworthy, District Superintendent J. C. White, and District Officer G. Swanson. Six teams contested the five competitions, producing a very high _ standard, tlie judges expressing their difficulty in separating the teams. The results in the different events were as follow

Charles Pope Cup, Roller Bandaging (judge, .Lady Corps Superintendent Miss Applegartli).—North End Squad (G. Elliot, J. Gillick, W. Dumbleton, and W. M'Laughlan), 203 points, 1; Roslyn Squad (L.. Highfield, W. Motion, A. Gibb, and W; Harvey), 194 points, 2. Charles Tuck Memorial Cup (judge, Dr Speight)Roslyn Squad (L. Highfield, W. Motion, A. Gibb, and W. Harvey), 83 points, 1; Forbury Squad (F. Williamson, W. Rumsey, J. Hickman, and L. Bond), 80 points, 2. “ K.” Cup, Improvising (judge, Dr Monheimer). Tainui Squad (W. Strathern, D. Holland, P. Bond, and H. Child), 96 points, 1; Roslyn Squad (L. Highfield, W. Motion, A. Gibb, and W. Harvey), 90 points, 2. Caroline Gibson Cup (judge. Dr Barnett). —Roslyn Squad (L. Highfield, W. Motion, A. Gibb, and W. Harvey), 76 points, 1; North End Squad (G. Elliot, J. Gillick, W. Dumbleton, and W. M'Laughlan), 73 points, 2. Malcolm Scott Memorial Aggregate Cup.—Roslyn Squad (L. Highfield, W. Motion, A. Gibb, and W. Harvey), 442 points, 1; North End Squad (G. Elliot, J. Gillick, W. Dumbleton, and W. M'Laughlan), 421 points, 2. Fox Medal, Individual Roller Bandage.—G. Elliot, 58 points, 1: W. Motion and W. Strathern, 57 points (equal) 2. At the conclusion of the competitions Divisional Superintendent D. M'Fie passed a hearty vote of thanks to the judges, patients, stewards, and all who assisted in making the competitions so successful. The assistant commissioner, Lieutenant-colonel P,., H. Morey, also congratulated the division on the outstanding display given by the members. The trophies will be presented at the annual social and dance to be held in the Hillside Social Hall, Cargill road, on Saturday next, when the members of other local divisions will be entertained.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Hillside Division was held in the Hillside Social Hall on Monday, September 28, the superintendent (Mr J. Penson) presiding over a large attendance. After the general business was dealt with a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Dr Clark Hanau for his very instructive lecture on internal hiemorrage, shock, and collapse. For the past three weeks teams nave been hard at work practising for the Labour Day competitions. As a curtain-raiser to _ the Otago-West Coast Ranfurly Shield match at Carisbrook recently a team representing the division met n team from the, Otago Referees’ Association in a most enjoyable game of Rugby The referees were successful by 25 points to 16. At the conclusion of the game the trophy was presented to the captain of the winning team by Corps Officer W. T. Hobby. Divisional secretaries who have not already done so are requested to forward to the corps secretary particulars of members who are willing to billet members of visiting teams for Labour Day competitions.
