Most of the deceased’s life was spent in the goldfields of this colony and in Victoria. In early life he was one of the famous old force of mounted police of Victoria, which has given this colony not a few of its best officials. He was believed to have been present at the Eureka affair. He came to this colony with the late Air St. John Branigan. * » ■* # The Ivaikoura, from Plymouth via Cape Town, made the passage from England to Port Chalmers in 39 days 3hr and 30min, including all stoppages. She brought 300 passengers. * * 4t * A New Zealand loan of £1,507,800 at 4 per cent has been placed on the Loudon market. Tenders are to be opened on October 14. The minimum has been fixed at £97.
