PORT CHALMERS LABOUR PARTY

The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held ou the evening of October 7, when a large attendance of members assembled under the president, Mr C. Smith. Several matters of local importance were dealt with, chief of which was the selection of Mr J. H. Williamson as the official nominee of the party, to contest the vacancy on the borough council. The opinion was expressed that, as Mr Williamson is an excouncillor of proved ability, his election would prove a decided acquisition to that body. A letter was received from the St. Kilcla branch, congratulating the Port Chalmers branch ou its progress, the continuity of which was evidenced by a further 20 new members being elected. At the conclusion of business a debate was held on the subject ‘ That Nationalisation of Industry Is the Only Way to Economical Security.’ Hotii teams handled the subject well. They were represented by the following;—Affirmative: Mr Fraser, sen., Mr Fraser, jun., and Mr Myles. Negative: Mr O’Donnell, Mrs Bullen, and Mr Ruxton.
