DRAINAGE BOARD WORK

FOUL SEWER AT SOUTH DUNEOiN ESTIMATED COST £21,800 The Works Committee of the Drainage Board will recommend on Monday night that a section of the work of laying the foul sewer in South Dunedin be now put in hand, the estimated cost being £21,800. The committee reports that the drainage engineer has now completed his preliminary plans showing the approximate line and sizes of pipes required for the foul sewer to be laid in South Dunedin, Caversham, and Kaikorai Yalley. Final plans of the sewer between the main intercepting sewer and Cargill road have also been completed, and the committee now recommends that this section of the work be now put in hand, at an estimated cost of £21,800. The estimated cost of the whole work, from the main intercepting sewer to the city boundary in Kaikorai Valley road, is £38,000, this sum forming part of the £50,000 loan schedule authorised by the Loans Board in November, 1935. Final plans of the next section of the work, from Cargill road to the mouth of the old Caversham tunnel, are also in hand. A recommendation is made that authority be granted to extend the foul sower in Cromwell street along Berwick street for a distance of approximately 210 ft, at an estimated cost of £l2O, which sum will be a charge on the item for unforeseen expenditure in the second £IOO,OOO loan schedule. The sewer is required to serve a new subdivision comprising 10 building sites. The drainage engineer has been authorised to act with regard to the construction of the undermentioned mud tanks:—(a) A double mud tank in Allandale road, at the angle immediately below Coney Hill road, at an estimated cost of £ls. (b) Two No. 1 mud tanks at the intersection of Fryatt street with Halsey street, and one No. 1 mud tank at the intersection of Bauchop street, at an estimated cost of £75. half of which will be payable by the Otago Harbour Board. The cost of the whole of the above-mentioned tanks will be chargeable to the item for mud tanks in the first £IOO,OOO loan schedule.
