INCREASED COSTS
ADVANCE ON CONTRACT RATES RECOMMENDATIONS TO CITY COUNCIL Owing to increased costs due to the recent legislation, several committees will recommend to the City Council at "its meeting on Monday night that various contractors be allowed an advance on the contract rates. The Tramways Committee recommends that the contractor for printing tramway cash tickets (Mr John M‘lndoe) be allowed an advance of .‘lid per 10,000 on the contract rates to cover added manufacturing costs. The Gas Committee will recommend that an advance of Is per ton be all wed the Point Elizabeth Co-op. Coal Miners’ Depot Ltd. on their current contract rates for the supply of coal to tlu city gasworks, thereby advancing the rate from 43s per ton to 44s per ton. The advance is due to the rise in working costs, and the committee is of the opinion that the figure is reasonable. The Works Committee recommends that the following contractors be allowed an advance of 2s per ton in their contract rates for the supply and delivery of coal:—Contract 986, lignite coal, Mr W. W. Watt; and contract 987, bituminous coal, Bruce Coal Co. Ltd. It has been ascertained that there lia» been an increase of 2s per ton at the mines from which these coals are obtained.
