MACANDREW ROAD SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING The monthly meeting, held Inst evening, was attended by Messrs H. Ross (chairman), W. Butcher, R. Finder, E. Bennett, C. Schrick. C. Millar, J. Patterson, and P. G. Connolly. Mr A. M. R. Davidson, head teacher, reported a roll number of 543, with an average attendance of 94.4. Miss Figg, an exchange teacher from England, had been appointed, and had commenced her duties. The blinds had been fitted to one of the classrooms, and several more films had been ordered from England for the visual instruction projector. As several of the unemployed gardening plots had so far not been worked, it was agreed to give the holders seven days’ notice before taking any further action. Tentative arrangements were made for the holding of a school concert at the . end of November, and a school flower show early in the new year. The allocating of prizes was fully discussed, and it was unanimously agreed to award a dux medal and j>rizes at thte break-up ceremony. It was stated that the increased quarterly grant from the Education Board was welcome news, and the committee sincerely appreciated the action of the Government in allocating the increase and making it retrospective from April The boys’ hockey team was successful in winning the schools’ B grade, and the trophy had been presented by the committee chairman (Mr H. K. Ross). To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of' Mr S. Ritchie, it was unanimously agreed to recommend Mr H. R. Hunt (an ex-committceman) to the board.
Accounts amounting to £3l 5s lid were passed for payment.
