DISAPPOINTING MATCH

SAVOLDI HAD KRUSE'S MEASURE The Savoldi-Kruse match last Saturday night was disappointing, but just went to prove that one man will go only as well as his opponent will let him. Both were tarred with the one brush, with just a little in Savoldi’s favour. Both are good wrestlers. During his progress to the world’s championship Savoldi was a very spectacular wrestler, but, after gaining this honour, however, his one idea would be to hold the championship. To do this he would in all probability tighten up and leave few openings for those who were after his scalp. This may have been the reason ho did not display quite as much action as wrestling enthusiasts in Dunedin would have liked. The other menace to his work was Bob Kruse, and his wristlocks would certainly steady any man up. When ho takes a hold—wristlock, armbar, or headholds, forward or reverse—ho can, and did, get the, leverage and balance to keep Savoldi working hard, sometimes four or five minutes elapsing before Savoldi worked his way free. Kruse’s reverse headhold was the best that has been seen here, and takes a lot of breaking away from. Bob’s education as a wrestler goes back a few years when wrestling alone would please the public, but now followers of the mat game demand action, and' this good wrestler finds it hard to plan the correct antics to suit the public taste. Even Savoldi’s dropkick was not the spectacular move that it was in his previous match, and one could be forgiven for believing that he coasted along because he knew he has the lighter man’s measure.
