NATIONAL WORKERS’ MOVEMENT CONTRIBUTION TO SPANISH GOVERNMENT’S FUNDS The general meeting of the Dunedin Central branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening, Cr M. Silvcrstone (president) presiding over a good attendance of members. Correspondence was read and received from Right Hon. M. J. Savage (Prime Minister), Hon. H. T. Armstrong (Minister of Labour), the secretary of the Otago Labour Representation Committee, secretary of the Anti-war Association, South Dunedin Unemployed Association, and national secretary of the N.U.W.M. (Wellington). Tho monthly financial statement was submitted by the secretary, which shelved the branch to be in a sound position in regard to finance and membership, was adopted. The organising report stated that 18 new members had joined up, 11 transferred to full-time work since last meeting, and

the membership was still over the 1,000 mark. A few complaints were tabled and left in the secretary’s hands to be rectified. ■ , , ~ Mr C. Pollock was elected to the executive, owing to the resignation of another member, who was unable to attend as ho had received full-time work. The full executive of the branch agreed, with the executives of the (LL.R.C. and South Dunedin Association, to meet the local M.P.s at tho Trades Hall on Sunday next, as requested. The following resolutions were carried unanimously(l) “ That we ask the national executive to rally national support for the following request: That the amount of earnings permissible, other than relief pay, be the difference between relief pay and the Public Works basic weekly wage.” (2) That the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement expresses its whole-hearted support for its fellow-workers in Spain in their gallant fight to uphold their Government against the reactionary menace of Fascism, and forwards a donation of £5 to assist thorn in their heroic struggle in defending with their lives the freedom and democracy represented by their Government.” Tho secretary was instructed to interview the certifying officer with a_ view to getting the reporting time of intermittent workers changed, and also the chairman of reserves re various matters brought under notice.
