COMMERCE STAMPS
IN UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND [Special to the 1 Star.’] WELLINGTON, October 8. The demand for the Chamber of Commerce special commemorative stamps has been so unprecedented that though the month’s normal requirements were put on sale at the beginning of the mouth, the 2Jd and 4d values were sold out on Tuesday, and the Gd value yesterday. There are still moderate supplies of and Id values available, but they will soon be exhausted, as the demand seems insatiable. Particulars of the actual quantities of these stamps put on sale are not available in official quarters, but it seems probable that the 2Jd stamps, which normally are used chiefly for foreign correspondence, may prove to be the scarcest, while the 4d stamp, which is in demand for registered correspondence, will be a close • second. As 6cl stamps are used largely for parcels, the commerce stamp of this denomination will not he so scarce, though supplies are already exhausted. From inquiries at the General Post Office it has been ascertained that the demand from overseas speculators and stamp dealers was not abnormal, and as the stamps were on .sale in New Zealand only it is probable that they will be in keen demand by overseas collectors at a premium over their face value.
