HEAVY FIGHTING AT OVIEDO FIFTEEN THOUSAND MINERS IN ACTION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MADRID, October 6. (Received October 7, at 11 a.m.) Reports have been received of heavy fighting at Oviedo. Fifteen thousand miners flung bombs and dynamite sticks against the rebels, who are holding the centre of the town and the heights dominating the streets, into which they poured a withering fire from machinegun nests. The insurgents claim that they repulsed the attack. REPORT RIDICULED PARIS, October 6. (Received October 7, at 11 a.m.) The ‘ Echo de Paris ’ Cacercs correspondent interviewed General Franco, who described as madness the reports that the insurgents proposed to cede portions of Spanish territory to foreign countries in return for assistance. REBEL ATTACK ON KEY POSITION FAILS MADRID, October 6. "(Received October 7, at 11.5 a.m.) A uhree days’ attack by the insurgents on the key position of Navalperal, 40 miles north-west of Madrid, is reported to have been repulsed.
