GOLD DREDGE ON MOLYNEUX
HITCH IN LAUNCHING OPERATIONS Despite favourable conditions, the Molyneux Dredging Company’s huge electric steel dredge was still sitting firmly on the skidway on the bank or the river near Clyde at 2 p.m. to-day. The launching operations were postponed last night, as the indications were that the level of the river would be maintained till this morning. The contractors responsible for the launching started work this morning at 6 o’clock, and after about six hours’ operations had shifted the dredge one foot nearer the river. Winch trouble developed and was later overcome, but as a result of sand getting on the skids difficulty was experienced in shifting the dredge any further. Two powerful jacks were commissioned without success. Shortly after 2 p.m. a gang of men on the job had their first rest for the day. The river had dropped several inches during the morning, and doubts were expressed as to whether the level would be maintained at such a height as would justify further attempts at present.
