RAILWAY TRADESMEN
THE BIENNIAL CONFERENCE [Per United Pkess Association.] WELLINGTON, October G. Tbo biennial conferenco of the Railway Tradesmen’s Association was opened to-day by Mr G. H. Mackley (General Manager of Railways), who expressed appreciation of the co-opera-tion and goodwill displayed by the association’s officers in the negotiations with respect to the introduction of the 40-hour week. The Minister of Railways (Mr Sullivan), who visited the conference, stated that next year the Government intended to introduce a national superannuation scheme which would be much in advance of anything in that nature attempted in any part of the world. Mr Sullivan said he was endeavouring to sec that the railways wore supplied with the best possible equipment and had the best possible conditions, thereby enabling the service to be given its full economic position in tbo Do--1 minion.
