LITTLE THEATRE BIRTHDAY PARTY

A true spirit of carnival was abroad on Saturday evening at the Victoria Hall when jthe Little Theatre celebrated its first birthday. Many of the guests came to the party in fancy dress, and this added to the gaiety of the occa- “ Alice in Wonderland ” and “ Little Miss Muffet ” took their places demurely with “ A Sweet Girl Graduate, while a lady of the harem and a gipsy girl were partnered by Maurice Chevalier and a very black nigger, who served ice creams under a gaily-striped umbrella. Pirates, soldiers, Cossacks, and Samoans were among the stream ot dancers, and everything went with a joyous swing from beginning to end. A charming minuet was presented by Miss Holland, assisted bv Misses Alice Priest, Betty Allan, Doris Wallace-Watson, Betty Pilling, Isobel Clark, Molly Doig, and Patsy Stephens. The accompanist was Miss Pearl M‘Elroy and the soloist Miss Gwenda Burt. Those responsible for stalls were: —Ice cream, Mr S. Lock; pies, Miss Renee M'Neil; saveloys, Miss Audrey Watson; punch bowl, Mrs Calder; and supperMesdames A. C. Stephens, M. Shiel, Glue, and W. J. White. A Karitane nurse sold carnival hats from a perambulator laden with choice models. A feature of tho evening was the production of the birthday cake, which was in the form of a model of the Little Theatre in ice cream so large that each guest was able to enjoy a slice. Rutherford, Melville, M. Fenwick. G. Burt, Hamer (2), Canter, Greenall, Henderson, Kennedy, J. Garden (Auckland), Bradanovich (Auckland), Fleming, M'Bride, Froude, Miller, Farrell (2).
