SPIRITUALIST CHURCH

“Is Spiritualism a ISew Religion? ” K’as the subject of an address delivered through Mi-s Alexander Webb at the Spiritualist Church last evening before a large congregation. Although some people regarded it as a new tad that had taken hold of a few cranky individuals, it was part of God’s plan and was as old as creation, said the control. He. with others had set themselves ■the task of disproving the absurd idea of spirit communication at the time that what are known as the Rochester Rappings by the Fox sisters occurred 88 years ago. However, they were the ones that were confounded and, having received absolute proof of spirit return, he felt an urge to espouse the truth. Spiritualism confined the teachings and healing powers of Jesus and, like His ministrations, was often misrepresented and opposed, but, said tha control, what do opposition and persecution matter if you know God? Spiritualism showed men the things that were worth while. It revealed the Bible in a new light, making an open, book of those matters which previously appeared mysterious. To-day it was presented in many forms, but seekers should analyse everything carefully, rejecting the false and accepting tha true. It was not a religion for the rich alone, as it brought a message of hopefulness and upliftment to the poor, the class that Christ loved to succour. He preached the brotherhood of man under one. divine fatherhood, and Spiritualism did the same. It brought riches to mankind, not wordly riches, but the riches of God. These lay all round about ns ready for us to gather and give to others. It demonstrated the divinity and purity of life and that, as the soul developed, a great spiritual light shone on life’s pathway in the search for God. This was not a selfish way. it was a way of service to others, as only be giving to others could wo receive, and the more we gave tha more would wo receive. At the conclusion of the address Mrs Webb gave a number of spiritual clairvoyant messages to members of tha congregation.
