INTERHOUSE SPORTS

SUCCESSFUL GIRLS’ FIXTURE INTERESTING AND COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME The second annual interhouse sports meeting controlled by the Young Women’s Christian Association at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday afternoon was a decidedly successful fixture, 120 competitors, representative of 12 business houses and women’s organisations, collaborating in individual and team competitions. Conditions were ideal, but, considering the attractive nature of the meeting, the attendance was rather disappointing. The programme, a comprehensive and varied one, aroused strong competitive interest, while the march past of tho different teams—one of the outstanding features of the fixture last year—was again very striking, tho neat uniforms and tho general bearing of tho girls giving this event a note of the spectacular, Indicative of the standard of 'the march were the placings made by the judge (Miss Millar, sports mistress of the King Edward Technical High School), four teams tying for the first and second places. The winner of the Earle Johnson Cup, awarded for the highest individual total, was Miss M. Dodds (Standard) , who revealed unusual athletic versatility, winning the 75yds race in excellent time, the skipping event, and the 100yds race. The James Hogg trophy for tho best team’s aggregate, was won by Woolworths, this team also winning the Sargood Cup for tho highest points scored at the meeting. Blackie’s team was awarded the Cleaun Cup, given for the best aggregate of the Y.W.C.A. interhouse basketball teams. Trophies were presented at the conclusion of the meeting, which was splendidly disposed of by officials of the Otago Amateur Athletic Association, by Miss Frances J. Ross (president of tho Y.W.C.A.). Musical selections were provided by the Boys’ Brigade Old Boys’ Band. Results:— FLAG RELAY, First Heat.—Woolworths 1, H.B. I. 2, Standard 3. Time, 57 4-ssee.
