TILE THROUGH WINDOW
RAID ON JEWELLER'S SHOP [l’r.K United Press Association.] A UCKLAND, October 4. A smash-aml-grab raid on the jeweller’s shop of .\!r T. H. Martin in Symonds street was tarried out shortly after midnight on Friday, but with on’y minor .success. The main front plate-glass window of the .shop was intact at midnight, but not lung after that hour it was broken by someone who threw a piece of ti!o through it. The tile struck the window rather high up. making a hole about nine inches in diameter, through which it was somewhat difficult to reacli_ the shelves on which jewellery of considerable value was displayed. As is the custom in most jewellers’ shops, the more valuable articles had been removed from the window; but bad tlie tile shattered the glass instead of merely making a hole, watches, rings, and other .jewellery could have easily been taken. Only two watches, ol a combined value of under To. were taken.
