GAELIC SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society of New Zealand was held on Friday evening in the Returned Soldiers’ Association Club room. Chief W. Keith Cameron was in the chair, and was supported by Chieftains W. H. Al'Leod, C. Macdonald, A. Matheson, and A. Al'Kcnzic. .In his opening remarks, the Chief welcomed all present, and expressed his pleasure at the good attendance of members. He also welcomed Pipe-major Norman Stratton, of the Taieri Pipe Band, and Mr and Mrs Doyle and their daughter, Miss Molly Doyle, from Bluff. Mrs M‘Rae (vice-president of the Gaelic Society, Auckland, and widow of the late president) was present, and was f ailed to a seat on the platform by the chief. Mrs M‘Rae received a warm welcome at the hands of the chief, and was asked to take hack to Auckland the good wishes of the society*
A delightful Highland and Scottish programme was presented, and all the performers were recalled to receive the hearty applause of the audience. The following was the programme;— Gaelic Choir, ‘ The id mi g’ ad amhare ’ and ‘ An cluin thu mo nighean donn ’; Mr Roy M'Dongall, 1 Alary of Argylc ’ and ‘Dima’; Mr William Stevenson, ‘ The Recruit ’ and 1 Loch Lomond and You ’; Miss Anne White, ‘ Robin Adair’ and ‘Cornin’ Thro’ the Rye’; Airs A. M'lvor, ‘ Eilean mo gaol ’ and ‘ Ribhinn donn’; Airs J. W. Allan, ‘Oh, Wert Thou in the Canid Blast ’ and ‘ Ye Banks and Braes o’ Bonny Doon ’; Mr Roy AfacDougall, ‘ For You Alone ’ and ‘ Hail Caledonia ’; Pipe-major Norman Stratton, pipe selections, ‘ AlacFayden of Alilfort ’ and ‘ Sheep AVifo ’; .Miss Warren’s pupils, ATiss Tnelda and Zela Auslin, scan triubhais; Aliss Molly Doyle, pipe selections, ‘ Airs Macdonald" ’ and ‘ Alalorka ’; Miss Billy Brown, Irish jig; Aliss Lexie Mathieson. recitations, ‘ The Two Little Scottish Martyrs,’ ‘At the Breakfast Table,’ and ‘ Overheard at a AVcdding ’: Airs .). W. Allan, ‘ Afy Ain Folk ’ and ‘ To Alusic ’; Airs APRao, Gaelic songs, ‘ Cait and caidil a Uibhinn ’ and ‘ Grath Gcal mo Cridh ’ ; Aliss Anne White, ‘Oh the Oak and the Ash ’ and ‘ The Alinstrcl Boy ’ ; Misses I. and Z. Au-tin and Aliss Dotty Brown, Highland fling.
Airs Alathcson played the accompaniments for the choir, and Aliss Alice George for the soloists.
Chieftain P. C. Gray moved a vote of thanks to the performers, which was carried by acclamation.
