POLICE COURT

MONDAY, OCTOBER 5. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) THEFT OF COAX,. Adam Brockie pleaded guilty to the theft of coal valued at 2s, the property of some person unknown, Mr J. L, Calder represented the accused. Sergeant O’Shea said that at 1.30 a.in. on Sunday Brockie was seen in Cargill road carrying a sack on his back. Ho was accosted by a constable and asked what be bad in the sack. He replied that it was coal, and that he had obtained it at the railway siding at Anderson’s Bay. Mr Calder said that Brockie was in a fuddled state at the time as a result of drink. He had no need to pick up the coal, as some was delivered at his home the day before. Ho had spent two nights in the cells, and that was a severe lesson to him. A fine of £2 was imposed. DRUNKENNESS. Leslie George Shaw (Mr 0. Stevens), who was charged with drunkenness, was discharged on the ground that he had paid a penalty when he had to make good damage amounting to £1 12s del to a window in Moray Place, through which ho crashed after stumbling on the footpath. .MAINTENANCE. Gordon Grant Austin was proceeded against in respect to default of a maintenance order, Mr J. B. Thomson appearing for the complainant. Defendant was sentenced to ] 1 days’ imprisonment at Panama, to be released on payment of £7 10.= . the warrant to bo suspended for 10 davs.
