ASSAULT CHARGE

JOCKEY IN COURT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND. October 2. Allegations by the police of a fight which culminated in a serious assault in a dub early this morning were heard in the Police Court when Keith Vivian Gill, a jockey, aged 21, was charged \Vith assaulting Albert William Douglas on October 2. The police said a man arrested this morning on a charge of intoxication while in charge of a car was involved in the fight in the so-called club. It was alleged that he was assaulted by Gill. When Gill asked for bail Detective-sergeant M‘Hugh asked that it should be substantial. Gill was an ex-jockey and had no ties here. Gill said he had £22 in liis possession and had just returned from India, where he had been riding, and he inended to ride hero when he obtained a license. Mr K. K. Hunt granted a remand and allowed Gill his liberty. He was ordered to deposit the £22 and to report to the police daily.’
