CATHEDRAL CARNIVAL

OPENING ON TUESDAY NIGHT It is perhaps some time since a queen carnival of the magnitude of the forthcoming cathedral carnival was held in Dunedin, and the younger people of the present generation will probably have only dim recollections of the big events of the past upon which the present venture is said to be modelled. Every night during the holding of the carnival approximately 75. minutes’ entertainment will be provided in His Majesty’s Theatre, and on the occasion of the opening on _ Tuesday nest and the following four nights 4 Cabaret Continental,’ a sparkling variety entertainment, will be presented by a company of 45 players, none of whom is a stranger to the local stage. The artists include Tui Northey, Jimmy Macfarlane, Arthur Lungley, Harold Bain, Alex. M'Dowcll, Kevin Dun, and Miss Abraham, and the well-known Operatic Society ballets from the Connie Potts School of Dancing; 4 Cabaret Continental ’ takes up the whole of the first half of the programme, and it is said to abound with high-class specialty acts, precision dancing, and smart choruses. Following this presentation, opportunity will be given the public to inspect the carnival, and at 9.30 p.m. a further 45 minutes’ programme will be presented in the form of specialty turns, opening with Bert Nelson, the onewheel cycling clown; Chang-Lu, Chinese magician (under engagement to the carnival) ; an original and spectacular ballet, and two 44 thumb-nail ” sketches entitled 4 Justice ’ and 4 It’s Moments Like These . . . ’• Lavishly decorated stalls will be found stocked with personal, household, and miscellaneous gifts. Suppers will be available nightly, and two 44 milk bars ” have been installed to keep abreast of the times. 44 Chocolate Aley ” offers more than its usual opportunities by the introduction of many new attractions
