THE ROSS FELLOWSHIP MR W. D. BGRRiE ELECTED Mr W. D. Borne, 8.A., was elected Boss Fellow for tho years 1937-38 at a meeting last night of the council of. Knox College. Tho Ross Fellowship was founded in 1920 with tho object of_ promoting a higher standard of learning in certain important subjects, and is.of an annual value of .-£159, with free quarters in Knox College during the term of the fellowship, candidates for which must bo graduates of tho University of Now Zealand .who have graduated as internal students of the University f Otago. Since 1920 the following have held the fellowship:—Dr W. P. Morrell, Dr J. J). Salmond, Dr W. J. Boraman, Rev. J. M. Bates, Dr d. T. Campbell, Mr A. Salmond, Mr W. R. E. Stephenson, and Mr Angus Ross.

Mr W. D. Borne, who was horn in 1913, is an old boy of Waitaki Boys’ High School, where ho was a prefect and a noted athlete. While attending the school he was the Otago secondary schools’ high jump champion and competed with considerable success in other branches of athletics. 4e was a member of the school Rugby fifteen for two years.

He entered Knox College m 1933, and has taken a prominent part in all college and University affairs. He is a member of the University A Rugby fifteen, and this year was the New Zealand University high jump champion, while he has held several Otago University championships. He was a member of the Otago team which won the championship shield at the New Zealand track and,field championships at Dunedin in February, and filled second place in the high jump. He holds the Otago University record for the high jump. Mr Borrie was a member of the staff of the Otago Boys’ High School last year, and graduated B.A. in 1936. He is at present working for his M.A. in history. He proposes to take as his subject of research ‘ New Zealand|s Immigration Problem.’ Mr Borrie is a son of Mr and Mrs P. W. Borne, of Oamaru.
