MAJORCA

Majorca has in recent years become very popular as a holiday, resort, and the hews that Palma was heavily bombarded during August has a personal significance for many British people. The battleship Repulse, however, rescued most of the ' permanent English colony. This has grown considerably of late, says the London ‘ Daily Telegraph.’ It consists largely of writers and artists, to whom the advantage of low cost of diving outweighs the monotonous Majorcan food. There are few cattle, so meat is scarce. Most of the milk comes from goats or sheep. Apart from Chopin and George Sand—of whom the moral islanders strongly disapproved—Majorca’s most noteworthy, though legendary, inhabitant was the seventeenth century San Ramon Pinaforte. When ho was_ at Peurto de Seller he received a mystical call to go to Barcelona. He flung his cloak on the sea and sailed away on it. His strange journey is still commemorated at Seller every year.
