DEVALUING the franc SENATE TO VOTE ON GOLD BILL Brass Association —By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, October 1. The Chamber of Deputies readopted the complete text of the Gold Bill by 351 votes to 217. The Government will probably now make its entire adoption by the Senate a matter of confidence. The Bill will now go back to the Senate, which will meet at 9.30 a.m. THE PEOPLE NERVOUS PARIS, October 1, Crowds are queueing up for admission to the Senate, and the general public is keyed up to the grave political outlook. The people were rendered more nervous when the authorities began the first of general air raid warning experiments, sirens shrieking throughout the city, drowning even the roar of traffic. The Senate met at 9.30 and adjourned for an hour to enable a formula of conciliation to be considered. NEW COMPROMISE BILL PARIS, October 1. (Received October 2, at 2 a.m.) M. Auriol (Minister of Finance) says: “'We are working for a new compromise Bill, enabling an agreement between the Chamber and the Senate, and providing that there will be no decision regarding wages and prices without the approval of the National Economic Council. The Bill also specially provides compensation for ex-servicemen. An agreement is expected in the afternoon.” BILL PASSES BOTH FRENCH HOUSES PARIS, October 1. (Received October 2, at 11 a.m.) The Senate, by a show of hands, adopted the amended Bill, which was returned to the Chamber of Deputies The Finance Committee of the Chamber adopted the Senate’s compromise, and later the Chamber passed the amended Devaluation Bill. This compromise invests M. Blum with authority to suppress unreasonable advances in prices.
