HOLIDAYS IN GERMANY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is very difficult for members of the D.J.H. (German Youth Hostel Association) to visit any country beyond their on borders on account of the “ gcldspcrre,” which, forbids anyone (without special permission) to take more than 10 H.M. (about 16s) out of Germany. The German Government has, however, approved‘of a scheme of Anglo-German holiday exchange which does away with this difficulty. A member of the D.J.H. (German Youth Hostels) can buy coupons from the D.J.H. National Office in Berlin, which are valid at any hostel in England and Wales for supper or bed or breakfast. In this way a holiday in England is made possible for the German Youth Association members, and with a return ticket purchased in Germany before leaving there remains the full 10 reichmarks for use in case of emergencies. If members of the Youth Hostel Association who wish to visit Germany do not buy the German “gutscheine” (i.e., coupons), then no German parties can go to England. A careful balance is left between the coupons sold at the German national office, and no money will pass from England to Germany or Germany to England. The charge for the'German coupons is Is each, or 12 “ gutscheine ” or coupons for Bs. These “ gutscheine ” (coupons) are valid at any hostel in Germany for bed and breakfast.— l am, etc., Reader. October 2.
