WAGES RATE DEMANDS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 1. In the clerks’ dispute, the discussion on wages rates was taken this afternoon in committee, and an adjournment was made to Tuesday morning. The parties aro to meet meantime in order to have some definite proposal to submit to the Conciliation Council when it resumes. The rates claimed by workers were as published in the reports of their proceedings on September 25 against the carriers, Customs forwarding agents, and others. These ranged from 15s to £1 5s on commencing, and rose to £4 10s at tho age of 21, the highest being £6 15s. Junior typists and shorthand typists’ rates sought are £1 to £2 10s, after three years ; at 2i, £3 ss; at 20, £4 for typists, and £4 10s for shorthand typists. The rates set out in the manufacturers’ counter-applications were:— Junior males 15s on engagement, rising by 4s every half-year for' three years, and thereafter by 5s until 21. Adults: Males, £4. Junior females 15s, rising by 4s every half-year for three years, and thereafter by 2s Gd until 21; adult females. £2 2s 6d. The Employers’ Association proposals were;—Juniors 15s to £2 after four years, thereafter—females £2 5s and males £2 10s in the fifth year, to £4 in tho eighth year, and thereafter £4 10s.
