STEADY RISE IN VOLUME New Zealand’s internal air mail service has' been in operation for si* months, and steadily growing business culminated during the week ended Sep» tember 20 in- the record number of 18,322 letters being despatched. . Th« number of letters forwarded during the first week', which ended March 23 (36,793), was exceptional, owing to the novelty aspect of the new service, because the figures dropped to 12,470 in the following’ week. 'However, there has been a steady improvement in the demand for this quick mail service between a limited number of centres, and the most recent weekly total shows that the regular business is now almost. 50 per cent, in advance of that of the. first normal week. The 18,322 letters carried during the week ended September 20 represent a total weight of 6311 b.
