REMARKABLE FUTURIST FILM
‘THINGS TO COME’ AT REGENT TO-MORROW “ There can be no two viewpoints about this amazing film, it is the most colossal and magnificent production brought to the screen, a triumph not only for Alexander Korda, but for the cinema as a whole,” writes a leading English critic about 1 Things to Come,’the London Films production written by H. G. Wells, which will begin tomorrow at the Regent. “ What the mind of an author can conceive, the cinema can portray; you will never be more certain of that than when yon have seen this picture’s technical marvels and its wide sweep of spectacle as it ranges over several generations and wrecks and remakes a world within a little less than two hours.” The opening scenes, which show, a city enjoying Christmas Eve, in spite of war rumours, and then, with a terrible suddenness, the air raid that opens_ hostilities an* quite perfect as dramatic screen spectacle. The section of .the film which depicts the same city reduced to barbarism by years of war, pestilencerid dec, and ruled by a ruthless _ po_cket'” dictator, is equally impressive in its carefully selected and picturesque detail. Then comes more spectacle: the arrival of monster planes, startling to behold; of a band of airmen and scientists bent on rebuilding the world; and the reconstruction of the city by gigantic machines. The huge cast is headed by Raymond Massey, Ralph Richardson, Margaretta Scott, and Sir Cedric Hardwicke, and though naturally the human players tend to be dwarfed bv the colossal nature of the theme, the film is rich in the elements of “ human interest,” adventure, romance, and drama. Associated wita the main feature is the latest Mickey Mouse cartoon, entitled ‘ Mickey’s Polo Team,’ and a comedy, ‘ Mother’s Holiday.’
