Our Balclutha correspondent telegraphs:—Edward Bentall Collis (51), a labourer, of Lovell’s Flat, did not arrive home last night from his employment. His wife made inquiries, and was informed by Mr D. Bryce, farmer, of Lovell’s Flat, by whom Collis was employed, that the latter had not been at work. A boat containing Collis’s lunch bag was found floating on Kaitangata Lake. The canal was subsequently dragged, and Collis’s body was recovered at 1 o’clock this morning. Deceased was in the habit of crossing the lake to his work. ,He leaves a widow and two children. An inquest will be held to-morrow morning. CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED. A Press Association message from Christchurch states that a woman cyclist, aged 20, not identified, was fatally injured early this morning when she was struck by a car driven by Mr W. R. Olliver, a Christchurch solicitor. It is understood that the woman was cycling in the same direction the car was travelling, and that when struck she crashed into the windscreen, which, fortunately for the driver, was made of safety glass. Mr Olliver took the woman to the hospital. She was deeply unconscious and in a critical condition. She died six hours later.
