DOMINION DAY BROADCAST
PROGRAMME FROM LOS ANGELES TWO DUHEDIH VOICES HEARD Further evidence of the interest taken in New Zealand by some of the American broadcasting stations was provided on Sunday evening, when KFI, Los Angeles, broadcast a special session in commemoration of Dominion Day, which occurred last Monday. Although direct reception of KFI was not possible, a short wave rebroadcast of the programme was picked up by several local enthusiasts. Speakers representing the various dominions were heard, each being introduced by music typical of his particular country. As an introduction to the portion of the programme which was designed primarily for New Zealand, the announcer said: “Let us tune to IYA, the voice of Auckland.” Then followed a special recording of ‘ God Defend New Zealand ’ and several Maori songs, making a fitting prelude to a most interesting talk on the history and tourist attractions of this country.
Dunedin’s two "film graduates-—Dir Colin Tapley and Ra Hould—were then brought to the microphone, the former stating that although it was a far cry from Los Angeles to Dunedin, radio made it possible to speak to his home town and his many friends across the Pacific. The broadcast, which lasted for an hour, was well received on short wave.
